It wasn't flat, it wasn't too rough. To use Sue Terry's words " it wasn't the Drake shake and it wasn't the Drake Lake". The motion of the X-bow stopped the pitching (up-down) motion to a great extent. The seas were moderate 2-3m swell sometimes a little more, and for a ship 100m long it was behaved extremely well.

After getting fitted for kayaking there was a lecture on Antarctica and its history. The explorers of previous centuries such took risks.

We are across Drake's passage; landfall in the afternoon, King George Island(in the South Shetland Islands).
